The department of biotechnology is the training base of life science and technology talents, responsible of cultivating the students majoring biotechnology. It includes four teaching and research sections of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular genetics and physiology. The faculty of the department of biotechnology has abundant teaching and research experience in stem cell biology, neurobiology, plant molecular biology, biological inheritance and protection, genetic engineering drugs, bioactive marine products and so on. It has the State Key Laboratory of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry and the Key Laboratory for Cell and Gene Engineering of Zhejiang Province.

        The objective of the discipline of biotechnology is to cultivate professional talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique, with high scientific literacy, extensive theoretical knowledge of biotechnology and experiment skill in genetic engineering, cell engineering, fermentation engineering, biological information and data analysis and so on.
