Introduction

The Institute of Microbiology of Zhejiang University, based on the second-level discipline of microbiology (key discipline of Zhejiang Province), has currently 6 professors and 2 associate professors, including Yangtze River Scholar and NSFC for distinguished Young Scholars Winner (FENG, MingGuang), National Famous Teacher Award winner (WU Min), National Ten-thousand Talents Program winner (GAO, HaiChun), National Talents Program winner (FANG WeiGuo), and NSFC for Outstanding Youth Scholars Winner (LV ZhenMei). The main research funds of the Institute include the national 973 project, the national 863 project, key and general projects of NSFC, and other major provincial key projects and enterprise cooperation projects. The Institute is renowned for high productivity in research: the index of productivity (per capita SCI paper) has been the top since the Institute is founded. Up to 100 papers were published on prestigious journals, such as PNAS，Nat Commun，ISME J，PLoS Genetics，PLoS Pathogen， Environ Microbiol， Mol Microbiol，J Bacteriol，Appl Environ Microbiol, and so on.
